Cafe au lait

Coffee with milk. Sometimes the simplest of recipes can turn out the most delicious. This recipe is so easy, it can hardly be called a recipe. This is one of my go to beverages for Mondays. There’s enough coffee to get my caffeine fix, but with the creamy component of milk added, it’s drinkable for those of us who aren’t quite coffee purists 😉 I like to add a dollop of foam on mine, just for interest, but since the foam almost immediately melts, it may not be worth it for you. You can add a little bit of sugar if you want, but I like to use good coffee and let the milk give it all the sweetness it needs.


  • 1/2 cup strong coffee
  • 1/2 cup milk (Use dairy for the best flavor profile, but you can use non-dairy as well)
  1. Heat the milk in the microwave or in a sauce pan until hot, but not boiling. Whisk lightly to gently aerate it, or leave it.
  2. Pour hot coffee into a mug. Add the hot milk. Top with a dollop of milk foam if desired.
